The Stat Line of the Night – 9/9/10 – Drew Brees
The NFL is back and the world champion New Orleans Saints opened up the new season by hosting Brett Favre — the old man that won’t go away — and the Minnesota Vikings.
It wasn’t his best performance, but Drew Brees did enough to get the Saints rolling in their title defense. Brees opened up the scoring on the Saints first possession. He hit Marques Colston for 28 yards on the very first play. Just three plays later, Brees hit Devery Henderson for a 29-yard touchdown pass and the Saints lead 7-0. It looked to be a high-scoring game, but it didn’t turn out that way.
Brees and the Saints were able to move the ball and control the clock, but they managed only one more TD after that, a Pierre Thomas one yard run to give them the lead for good at 14-9.
Still, Brees looked very smooth out there for the season opener and completed 27 of 36 passes for 237 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His passer rating for the game was 101.3. Drew Brees has The Stat Line of the Night for 9/9/10.
