The Stat Line of the Night — 9/14/10 — Shelley Duncan
Shelley Duncan doesn’t get the starting nod that often for Cleveland, having only started 49 games this season, but last night he got it and boy did he ever take advantage. Duncan single-handedly put the Indians on his back to help lead them to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Who is Shelley Duncan, you ask? Well with nights like these, we may be hearing his name a lot more often.
Duncan went 3-3 on the day, belting 2 home runs and driving in 4 RBIs. That’s right, Duncan drove in all four of his team’s runs in the one-run victory. Two of the hits were homeruns, a solo shot to left in the 4th inning and a two-run shot to left in the 6th inning. His other hit was an RBI single in the first inning to tie the score 1-1. He also scored 2 runs on the home runs as well. Duncan was essentially all of the Indian offense, and it was just enough to get away with a win.
The Indians season has not gone as they thought it would. They are out of the playoff race and have been for a while. Games like this, however, still produce a glimmer of hope for long-suffering Indians fans, as players like Duncan show promise for the future. Duncan himself secures the “Stat Line of the Night” with his performance.
