The Stat Line of the Night – 9/30/10 – Jose Bautista
The Toronto Blue Jays may not be headed to the postseason, but there is one player on their team that doesn’t want 2010 to end. Jose Bautista is having the year of his life.
Bautista went off again last night against the Twins in Minnesota. He started out 0-2, but then in the sixth he had a base hit of Francisco Liriano. Bautista was back at the plate in the 7th, this time with the bags packed with Jays. Ron Gardenhire went to his bullpen to bring in Pat Neshek to face Bautista, and Bautista crushed a grand slam homer to left field that traveled 427 feet. That was home run number 53 for him.
He got one more at-bat in the ninth against Jose Mijares. This time Bautista went opposite field for home run number 54 of the season. In total Bautista was 3-5 on the night with the 2 homers, 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. He improved his slugging percentage to .625 and boosted his OPS back over 1.ooo.
Bautista had just 59 home runs in his career before this season. He’s having an amazing year, and he has The Stat Line of the Night for 9/30/10.
