Ilya Kovalchuk Shootout FAIL! (Video)
Is signing a 15-year, $100-million contract really worth all the baggage that comes with it? Sure, you are one rich man, but for a shorter contract and less money, you would still be a rich man, and you wouldn’t be put under a similar microscope.
I would love to hear Ilya Kovalchuk’s answer to that question. After signing his highly debated contract with the Devils in the off-season, the Russian winger has struggled mightily this season, recording only three goals and eight points in 15 games thus far. He was even a healthy scratch for a game and has come under fire from both his coach and the fans through the first month of the season.
Things hit a new low for Kovalchuk on Wednesday night when he was called upon to keep his team alive in a shootout against the Buffalo Sabres. And with the game on his stick, Kovy lost the puck and his shot at redemption. How often do you see something like this happen to a sniper like Kovalchuk? Even Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth seemed confused.
So at what point, if ever, do we being to feel bad for a guy who is set to make $100 million?
