Blind 11-Year-Old Gymnast Is An Inspiration To Us All (Video)
Meet Lola Walters. To those who do not know her, she appears to be just another young female gymnast looking to someday represent her country at the Olympic Games. But to those who do know Lola, there is much more to her than meets the eye.
Lola was born legally blind. But instead of seeing complete blackness, her vision only allows her to see close objects in a “mushy blur”, with no depth perception. However, that hasn’t stopped Lola from getting on the balance beam, or taking a run at the vault. Sure, she may fall a little more often than some of the other girls, but giving up is simply not an option for her. You see, Lola doesn’t use her lack of vision as an excuse. She doesn’t even tell those around her about it. Instead, she uses it as a driving force to achieve what even those with perfect vision cannot.
ABC News recently put together a story about Lola, and after seeing it, it is evident that even an 11-year-old girl with a heart as big as hers can be a role model for people of all ages.
