Frozen Fisticuffs Fight Of The Night – Kaleta’s Flurry Of Lefts – 12/3/10

The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres do not meet often, but they did last night and it turned into a rather heated affair.  Things began to get chippy following a nasty hit-from-behind by the Jackets’ Mike Commodore on the Sabres’ Patrick Kaleta.  Commodore would receive a 5-minute boarding penalty and immediately after coming out of the box the Sabres’ Cody McCormick dished out some payback in the form of several stiff right hands to the face.  That was just the beginning.

A few minutes later, it was the Jackets’ Jared Boll and the Sabres’ Steve Montador dropping their gloves.  And only a few minutes after that we were treated to one of the best fights of this young NHL season.

After being on the receiving end of that hit-from-behind earlier in the game, we were almost certain we hadn’t seen the last of Kaleta.  And we were right!  Nine minutes into the third period Kaleta made his mark on the game, landing a flurry of left hands to the face of the Blue Jackets’ Derek Dorsett.  Although Dorsett was able to land a couple of shots of his own at the beginning of this tilt, he had no defense for Kaleta’s left hand during an exciting bout that was an easy choice for the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Friday, December 3, 2010.
