Lightning Strikes Twice For Kingsburg High School Football Team (Video)
During their first game of the 2010 season, Kingsburg High School found themselves trailing San Luis Obispo High School by a score of 15-13 with only 5 seconds remaining. Standing at their own 20-yard line, the Vikings had one final chance to get the ball into the opposition’s end zone. They did just that thanks to a great scramble by quarterback Garrett Steele, which gave him just enough time to hit running back Tyler Abernathy with an 80-yard touchdown pass for the win.
Twelve games later, the Kingsburg Vikings found themselves playing for the California D-III Championship against Porterville High School, but with their team trailing 21-20 with only 2:08 remaining and facing a 4 & 10 from their own 19-yard line, they were looking for a little deja-vu.
Needless to say, they got just that: A Garrett Steele mad scramble; a bomb to Tyler Abernathy; an 81-yard touchdown; the title as California D-III Champions.
