The Stat Line Of The Night – 12/30/10 – Dwight Howard

Last night the Orlando Magic took on the New York Knicks in what was a highly touted match-up between two Eastern Conference contenders with two of the best big-men in the game.  Much of the focus coming into this game revolved around the battle between the Magic’s Dwight Howard and the Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire, and while both superstars would lead their respective teams in points, it was Howard who would come out on top in this much anticipated battle.

The Magic were looking for their fifth win in a row and they got just that, thanks in large part to Howard’s 24 points and 18 rebounds.  Most impressive was the fact that out of those 18 rebounds, nine came on the offensive glass.  In addition to those numbers, D-12 also added three assists, one steal and one block during the Magic’s 112-103 home victory.

After a shaky start to the season, the Magic finally appear to be hitting their stride as their current win-streak has them sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, only 4.5 games back of the first-place Boston Celtics.  That is the goal for their team at this point as home-court advantage throughout the playoffs is a key factor to their title hopes.  There is no doubt that Howard has his sights set on a championship this season, but for now he will have to settle for “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, December 29, 2010.
