Swedish Goalie’s Cheap Shot Leaves MODO Player Injured (Video)
When it comes to cheap-shot artists and agitators, it appears as though the New York Rangers’ Sean Avery may have finally met his match. Although, it may come as a surprise to hear that this second coming of the super-pest plays in the Swedish Elite League. And it is even more surprising to hear that he is a goalie.
Niklas Svedberg of Brynäs is no stranger to mischief, and he was at it once again during a game last week against MODO. Sitting on the bench as the back-up goalie, Svednerg was left with the responsibility of opening the gate for his teammates, but that wouldn’t prevent him from getting in on the action and making his mark on the game.
Early in the second period, Svedberg decided to open the gate just as MODO defenseman Jens Westins was checked into it. There was no reason for him to do so. No Brynäs player appeared to be headed off for a line change. It was simply an act of utter disregard for the safety of the players on the ice. He may cry “honest mistake”, but after watching the evidence, something tells me that this play will have the rest of the league crying “suspension” for the 21-year-old goalie.
