The Stat Line Of The Night — 1/5/11 — Rajon Rondo

The Boston Celtics and the San Antonio Spurs met last night at the TD Garden in what was a battle between the NBA’s top two teams, and despite being without the services of Kevin Garnett, the Celtics still managed to come out on top, thanks to a monster performance from their point guard, Rajon Rondo.

With the Celtics leading 105-103 in the dying moments of the game, Paul Pierce blocked Manu Ginoboli’s game-tying shot attempt, and Rondo was there to clean up the mess, giving him his tenth rebound of the night and second triple-double of the season.  In addition to his 10 rebounds, Rondo also added 12 points, 22 assists and 6 steals as he torched the Spurs from start to finish at both ends of the floor on route to the victory.

Rondo is no stranger to putting up these types of numbers, averaging 10.7 points per game and 14 assists per game on the season.  With injuries beginning to take their toll, the Celtics will need to continue to rely heavily on their point guard if they wish to hold off the Miami Heat for top spot in the Eastern Conference.  For now, Rondo earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
