The Stat Line Of The Night — 1/12/11– Zach Randolph

Sitting one spot out of the playoffs in the tough Western Conference, the Memphis Grizzlies are in desperate need of wins in order to keep pace with the teams in front of them, while staying ahead of those behind them in the standings.  Last night’s visit to Detroit to take on a struggling Pistons team was the type of game that they cannot afford to let slip away, and an stellar performance from Zach Randolph made sure that didn’t happen.

The former Spartan returned to the state of Michigan and left a huge statement behind, recording 34 points and 17 rebounds as the Grizzlies beat the Pistons by a score of 107-99.  After trailing at the half, the Grizzlies power forward took over in the second half, scoring 24 points and picking up 10 rebounds in the final 24 minutes.

The win put the Grizzlies just two games back of Portland for eighth in the West, and four games behind the Denver Nuggets, who currently sit in seventh.  If the Nuggets follow through with their plans to trade away Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets, they could begin to slide, leaving Randolph and his Memphis teammates with the opportunity to step into a playoff slot.  The post-season may lie ahead for the former Most Improved Player (2004), but for now he will have to settle with “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
