Welker Receives Helmet-Cracking Hit, Edwards Flips Out As Jets Beat Patriots (Videos)
The New York Jets got some sweet revenge on both the New England Patriots and receiver Wes Welker yesterday evening during their AFC Divisional playoff game in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
After enduring an embarrassing 45-3 defeat at the hands of the Patriots back in week 13, the Jets exacted some revenge on their division rivals by eliminating them from the playoffs following a 28-21 victory on Sunday. It was an inspired effort by Rex Ryan’s team, who simply couldn’t stop themselves from “flipping out” after the final whistle blew.
Here are some of the celebratory acrobatics put on display by Jets’ wide receiver Braylon Edwards.
And the win wasn’t the only source of vengeance being dished out by the Jets’ players on Sunday.
They were also able to send a message to Wes Welker, who had taken some cheap shots at Rex Ryan during a press conference earlier in the week. Welker was benched by coach Bill Belichick during the Patriots’ opening possession after making several foot references while speaking to the media on Thursday, and when the Pats’ wideout was inserted back into the game, he received some more punishment via this helmet jarring collision with Jets’ safety Eric Smith, which sent a piece of Welker’s helmet flying through the air.
Both teams came into this battle talking the talk, but only the Jets would leave Gillette Stadium walking the walk.
