Pekka Rinne’s Stick Makes The Save Of The Year (Video)
It isn’t all that shocking to see the stick of a goaltender make an incredible save. After all, we have seen it plenty of times before in both the NHL and in the minor leagues. However, none have been quite as impressive, or as lucky, as the one made by Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators last night.
With his team tied 2-2 in overtime and on the penalty-kill, Rinne lost his stick in the goal crease and seemed to be down and out as the Edmonton Oilers’ Shawn Horcoff picked up a rebound in front of the net and backhanded it on goal. The puck slid past Rinne, but just as it was about to cross the goal line, it was met by the stick of the Predators’ keeper. That bit of luck helped preserve the tie and sent the game into a shootout where the Predators would eventually prevail, defeating the Oilers 3-2.
Rinne was solid all night, stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced,. As for the 22nd save, we’ll give the credit for that one to his perfectly placed stick.
