The Stat Line Of The Night — 1/24/11 — Jonathan Quick

After getting off to a hot start this season and finding themselves on top of the Western Conference standings, the Los Angeles Kings have cooled off considerably, dropping out of the playoffs.  Looking to creep back into the top eight, they had a tough tasks in front of them as the stingy Boston Bruins visited the Staples Center last night, and while the Kings would only record two goals, they were lucky to have an even stingier Jonathan Quick defending their goal.

Both teams registered and even 34 shots each last night, but the difference was between the pipes as Bruins’ goalie Tim Thomas allowed two of those shots to get by him while Quick didn’t allow any.  The Kings’ netminder frustrated opposing shooters all night on route to his 21st win and fifth shutout of the season as his team beat the Bruins by a score of 2-0.

The Kings still find themselves in 11th, three points out of eighth spot, with one game remaining before they head into the All-Star break.  There is still plenty of time for them to climb up the standings, but that wont be easy in a very tight Western Conference.  More performances like this from Jonathan Quick would certainly help, as he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, January 24, 2011.
