The Stat Line Of The Night — 2/13/11 — Rajon Rondo

The Heat and the Celtics hooked up in Boston on Sunday in what may very well be a preview of this year’s Eastern Conference finals.  The Celtics would likely invite such a scenario as they have dominated LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the rest of the South Beach boys this season, beating them in all three meetings thanks to yesterday afternoon’s 85-82 victory.

While Boston was able to spread out their scoring, with six players putting up double-figures, it was Rajon Rondo acting as the key catalyst with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.  The All-Star point guard’s low scoring total may not give him the flashiest triple-double, but what makes Rondo’s performance that much more impressive was his timing – he recorded nine points, four rebounds and three assists as part of a 20-3 Celtics run during the opening six minutes of the third quarter, which put them in the lead for good.

The win helped catapult the Celtics back into first place in the Eastern Conference only days after the Heat had taken over that position.  It should also help keep things interesting down the stretch as these two powerhouses jockey for home-court advantage.  For now, that advantage lies in the Celtics’ hands thanks to Rondo, who earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, February 13, 2011.
