The Stat Line Of The Night — 2/28/11 — Jonathan Toews

Despite winning the Stanley Cup last season, the Chicago Blackhawks entered last night’s game on the outside of the playoffs looking in.  However, a four-game winning streak helped them creep to within a point of the post-season.  Captain Jonathan Towes recorded three goals and three assists in those four games, and both he and his Blackhawks continued their hot-streaks last night in Minnesota.

With the opportunity to jump from ninth in the Western Conference all the way up to fifth, the Hawks took advantage, thanks to another big performance from their captain. Toews recorded the game-winning goal and added two assists to lead his club to a 4-2 victory over the Wild.

The two teams entered last night’s contest tied with 72 points, but the win for the Hawks now has them sitting four spots in front of the Wild, as they were able to leap-frog three teams in the standings with those two important points.  It took them five months to get their game on track, but Chicago is once again asserting themselves as one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.  Much of that is the result of the play they have been getting from Captain Towes, who earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, February 28, 2011.
