The Stat Line Of The Night — 3/2/11 — Al Horford
When naming the top contenders in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic are almost certain to get some love. Thanks to the Carmelo Anthony trade, the New York Knicks may have also entered that group. As for the Atlanta Hawks, they often find themselves on the outside looking in, despite finding themselves among those “contenders” in the standings. Last night they took on one of those contenders as they hosted the Chicago Bulls, and if this was a statement game for the Hawks, it is safe to say that Al Horford made quite the statement.
The Hawks’ all-star forward was an absolute beast, recording 31 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals on the night. His incredible performance helped the Hawks erase a 17-point halftime lead as he hit six of his 13 field-goals in a third quarter that saw the Hawks outscore the Bulls 25-13. That would get them back into the game, and a strong fourth quarter would help Atlanta seal the 83-80 victory.
Horford has been having himself quite the season as both his points and assists per game averages have increased rather significantly. His 31 points last night gave him a new career-high, and it also helped him earn “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, March 2, 2011.
