Brazilian Soccer Match Goes On Despite Flooded Pitch (Video)

It is no secret that the people of Brazil love their soccer, but exactly how much do they love it?  Let’s just say that a few feet of water on a soccer pitch isn’t enough to have them hanging up their cleats for the day.

That was evident last weekend at the Estadio Jair Bittencourt near Rio, where a Carioca Championship Serie B match between Itaperuna and Aperibeense was played, despite half of the pitch being submerged in several inches of muddy water.

Unfortunately for the players, Nike has yet to come out with a style of footwear that is a hybrid between galoshes and soccer cleats, but that didn’t stop them from splashing their way through the entire 90 minutes.  In the end, Itaperuna was somehow able to score a goal, en route to the 1-0 victory.

Here is a look at what you get when you combine water polo with soccer.
