A Weekend Of Inspiring Stories From Charlie Davies And Anthony Robles

Every once in a while the sporting world treats us to a story that is truly inspiring.  This weekend we were treated to two stories of such nature.

The first comes from the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday, where Anthony Robles of Arizona State defied the odds by defeating Iowa’s Matt McDonough in the finals to take the title.  What makes this such an unlikely, awe-inspiring story is the fact that Robles accomplished such a feat on one leg.

The 22-year-old senior was born without a right leg, but his upper-body strength and low center of gravity has allowed him to make up for his missing limb.  That was evident during his commanding 7-1 victory in the finals.  You can see some of his dominating performance below.

As for the second inspirational story, that comes from Washington, where Charlie Davies of the MLS’s DC United scored two goals in his first game since being involved in a life threatening accident less than two years ago.  The accident claimed the life of the passenger in the vehicle and left Davies with life-threatening injuries, but hard work and perseverance have helped him complete a full recovery and make his return to the football pitch on Saturday, where he recorded two goals during United’s 3-1 victory over Columbus.

After being subbed in during the second half, Davies capitalized on a penalty kick at the 62-minute mark, and followed that up with a strong individual effort in the 77th minute for his second goal of the game.  You can check out both goals below.
