The Stat Line Of The Night — 3/27/11 — Jamie Skeen

When the NCAA Tournament selection committee announced that the Virginia Commonwealth Rams would be taking part in the Big Dance this year, many college basketball experts were up in arms over the decision.  “How could they make it over teams like Virginia Tech and Colordao” Dick Vitale asked?  He likely isn’t asking that question anymore after watching the Rams run over top-ranked Kansas en route to the Final Four.

Much of the success of VCU can be attributed to a strong all-around team effort, but yesterday it was forward Jamie Skeen leading the charge with 26 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.  A highly touted recruit out of high school, Skeen attended Wake Forest, but transferred to VCU after two years.  Following yesterday’s victory, he likely couldn’t be happier with his decision.

Skeen and the Rams will now take on another team that knows a little something about overachieving.  That would be the Butler Bulldogs, who are appearing in their second Final Four in a row after defeating the Florida Gators on Saturday.  This semi-final match-up ensures that one of the teams in the finals will be no lower than an eight-seed, which is a rarity in the NCAA Tournament.  Skeen is hoping that it will be his 11th-ranked Rams playing for the title, but for now he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, March 27, 2011.
