The Stat Line Of The Night — 4/4/11 — Vinny Prospal

Sitting only two points ahead of the ninth-place Hurricanes, the New York Rangers were in need of a win on Monday night if they hoped to remain in control of their own playoff destiny.  It didn’t look like they would be getting that win after the Boston Bruins jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but that margin was quickly erased thanks in large part to the play of Vinny Prospal.

The 36-year-old center got the Rangers on the board in the second period and followed that goal up with another, which brought his team to within one goal of the Bruins before the second intermission.  The Rangers would complete the comeback with three unanswered goals in the third to take this crucial game by a score of 5-3.

It was a highly unlikely comeback for a Rangers team that hadn’t scored more than three goals in any of their previous six games.  Prospal’s two-goal performance helped them snap that streak and it also earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, April 4, 2011.
