The Stat Line Of The Night — 5/1/11 — Vincent Lecavalier

Entering their second round series against the Washington Capitals, the Tampa Bay Lightning would have been pleased to come away with a split in the first two games at the Verizon Center.  However, after winning Game 1 by a score of 4-2, the Lightning’s plans for the first two games quickly changed from split to sweep, and they would get that sweep thanks to a brilliant performance from Vincent Lecavalier.

After recording two assists in the opening game, Lecavalier notched two goals in Game 2, including the overtime winner that would give his Lightning the 3-2 victory and the 2-0 series lead.

The Lightning captain now has four point in the series, the most among any player from either team.  His 10 points in the playoffs currently place him in a tie for second among all NHL players.  After putting up some incredible stats during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, Lecavalier has struggled to meet expectations the past two season, but he can easily erase those memories if he continues his strong run in the 2011 NHL playoffs.  For now he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, May 1, 2011.
