Sharks Fan Gets Red Wings Players To Sign His Octopus Container (Video)
Looking to kick back and relax prior to last night’s Game 7 battle with the Sharks, several Red Wings players hit up a downtown bar in San Jose on Wednesday night. Among the players were forwards Kris Draper and Dan Cleary. Also among the crowd was Sharks fan Aaron Skilken, who decided to take advantage of the opportunity.
After seeing the players in the bar, Aaron headed over to a sushi restaurant a few blocks over to grab some octopus sashimi as a gift for the boys. The Wings players weren’t interested in eating the raw fish, but they were kind enough to sign the styrofoam container that it came in, after which Cleary figured it would be a good idea to remind Aaron that he had just received a signature from a “Stanley Cup champion.”
Unfortunately, Cleary will not be a Stanley Cup champion again in 2011, as his Wings fell to the Sharks in Game 7 last night by a score of 3-2. The loss meant that the Wings became the second team in the 2011 NHL playoffs to come back from a 3-0 series deficit to tie it at 3-3, only to lose in the seventh game and miss out on their chance at making history. The Blackhawks were the other team to accomplish (or, fail to accomplish) that feat during this year’s playoffs.
As for Aaron, he will now have the opportunity to get some Canucks autographs to replace the ones he received from the Wings players. Of course, we are assuming he has thrown that styrofoam container out by now. After all, I doubt anyone would sacrifice bearing the stench of two-day-old raw octopus just to hang onto autographs from the likes of Draper and Cleary.
