The Stat Line Of The Night — 5/18/11 — Jake Peavy

The Cleveland Indians entered last night’s game against the Chicago White Sox swinging some rather hot bats.  They had recorded 26 runs in their previous two games, and had only been shutout once on the year.  You can now make that twice, thanks to a dominating performance from White Sox starter Jake Peavy.

The former Cy Young winner was looking like a current Cy Young winner as he frustrated Indians batters the entire night, allowing only three hits and no walks while striking out eight batters during a complete game shutout.  The White Sox batters could only manage five hits and one run of their own, but that was all they would need as Peavy’s performance would help them earn the 1-0 victory.

With the win the White Sox have now won two in a row and seven of their last ten.  They currently sit nine games back of the Indians in the AL Central, but with plenty of baseball to play there is still time to string together a winning streak and climb up the standings.  A sweep of the Indians during their short two-game series would certainly help that cause.  They are already halfway there, thanks to Peavy’s complete game gem.  As a result, he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
