The Mavs’ Brendan Haywood Got Rejected By The Rim Last Night (Video)
Defense stole the show last night during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as both the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat shot well under 40% from the field. Leading the charge for the Mavs on the defensive end of the floor was Brendan Haywood, who recorded a game-high three blocks. However, none of those blocks will make up for the embarrassment that Haywood endured after being rejected by the rim at the other end of the court.
According to DraftExpress, Haywood’s standing reach is approximately 9 feet, 5.5 inches. When you consider the fact that the rim is only 10 feet off the ground, that means Haywood’s jump failed to make up for the remaining 6.5 inches required to dunk the basketball.
I always thought that a seven inch vertical was a prerequisite for playing in the NBA. I guess I was wrong. Here is the video that proves it.
