The Stat Line Of The Night — 6/27/11 — Aramis Ramirez

Not many teams have been able to solve Colorado Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin lately, as he had given up only three earned runs in his last four starts heading into yesterday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.  One man who did have an answer for him was Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez.

The Cubs bats were able to get to Chacin early and often, led by Ramirez, who recorded three hits and three RBIs in four at bats.  Two of those at bats resulted in home runs, with the first coming in the first inning and the other coming in the seventh.  With Ramirez leading the way, the Cubs offense exploded for ten hits and seven runs, en route to the 7-3 victory.

Despite the win, Chicago appears to be on the verge of another disappointing season.  They currently stand 14 games under .500, with a record of 32-46.  That has them sitting in fifth in the NL Central, 7.5 games back of fourth place Pittsburgh and 11.5 games back of first place Milwaukee.  There is still time for them to turn things around, but they are going to need plenty more performances like this from Ramirez.  For now, he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, June 27, 2011.
