The D-Backs’ Wily Mo Pena Spits In His Helmet Before Hitting A Walk-Off Homer (Video)
Heading into last night’s game, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Wily Mo Pena had only recorded 24 at bats this season. I’m not sure if he spit in his helmet prior to any of those at bats, but he did prior to his pinch-hit at bat last night in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the game tied, and it couldn’t have worked out any better for him!
The Indians erased the D-Backs two-run lead in the top of the ninth, but with Ryan Roberts on third and two outs in the bottom half of the inning, Arizona bench-boss Kirk Gibson called upon Pena to deliver a big hit. He did just that, sending the 0-1 pitch over the left field wall to give the Diamondbacks the 6-4 walk-off victory.
Following the game, the MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger, Dan Plesac and Harold Reynolds decided to analyze the lucky loogie. I wonder if this will become a new trend around the league?
