The Stat Line Of The Night — 7/5/11 — Dan Haren

The Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander entered last night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with a 9-0 record in his last 12 starts.  The last time Verlander had earned a loss was on April 27th against the Seattle Mariners and in his last seven starts he had allowed only five runs against.  Yes, Verlander has been that dominant as of late and he continued his dominance last night.  Unfortunately for him and his Tigers, they ran into the equally dominant Dan Haren.

Verlander was solid last night, allowing only one run against in 7 2/3 innings, but that one run was all Haren needed to record the win, as he went the distance, allowing only two hits, no walks and no runs against while striking out nine batters.  It was just the type of performance the Angels needed on this night, as they escaped with the 1-0 victory, despite their quiet night at the plate.

The win was the Angels’ tenth in their last 12 games.  That strong run has helped them reach the top of the AL West standings, where they are currently tied with the Texas Rangers.  With a one-two punch that includes Haren and Jered Weaver, the Angels could be a dangerous team down the stretch.  Haren did his part last night and he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
