The Stat Line Of The Night — 8/4/11 — Cliff Lee

It was a disappointing month of July for Cliff Lee, which saw the Phillies pitcher go 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA in five starts.  As he entered the month of August, he was looking to put July’s struggles behind him and regain the form that saw him go 5-0 with a 0.21 ERA in his five June starts.  He did just that during last night’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

The last time Lee faced the Giants was during last year’s World Series, when he was still a member of the Texas Rangers.  He earned the loss in both of his starts during the series, posting an ERA of 6.94 over 11 2/3 innings, but he would exact some revenge last night, pitching a complete-game shutout.  He allowed seven hits and no walks over the course of nine innings, while striking out eight for his fifth complete-game shutout of the season.

The Phillies would only manage to score three runs on the evening, but that was all they needed, as they earned the win and Lee earned “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, August 4, 2011.
