The Stat Line Of The Night — 8/8/11 — David Ortiz

After taking two of three games against the New York Yankees over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox were looking to extend their lead in the AL East as they traveled to Minnesota to take on the Twins.  Sox starter Tim Wakefield was in search of his 200th win, but he couldn’t get the job done on this night, however, one man who was getting the job done was David Ortiz.

Big Papi had a big night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs.  In addition to his two-run homer in the sixth inning, Ortiz also brought home the game-winning run with a single in the top of the ninth, as the Sox escaped with the 8-6 victory.  The win moves them 1.5 games up on the Yanks for first place in the AL East.  Papi was the key catalyst on this night and his solid effort at the plate earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, August 8, 2011.
