The Stat Line Of The Night — 8/9/11 — Cliff Lee

It may be tough for Cliff Lee to replicate the incredible month he had in June (5-0, 0.21 ERA), but he appears to be on his way towards doing just that in August.  After pitching a complete-game shutout during his first start of the month, Lee was dominant once again last night when he took the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lee didn’t get the opportunity to pitch another complete game shutout, but perhaps he should have, after going eight innings and allowing only four hits, two walks and no runs against.  He also struck out ten batters and hit a solo home run in the seventh, before handing closer Ryan Madson a 2-0 lead in the ninth.  Unfortunately, Madson would blow the Phillies’ shutout bid, allowing a single run in relief of Lee, but that was as close as the Dodgers would get, as the Phils escaped with the 2-1 victory.

The win now puts Lee at 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 18 strikeouts in two August starts.  He still has a ways to go if he wants to duplicate what he did in June, but his impressive performance does earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
