Stat Line Of The Night – 8/23/11 – Brandon Allen
The Oakland Athletics’ recently acquired first baseman Brandon Allen averaged about 20 home runs during his minor league days and he hit two tape-measure home runs last night at Yankee Stadium that have A’s fans excited about the 25-year-old’s potential.
Allen’s two moon shots were epic. His first home run made it up into the third deck at Yankee Stadium and had the Yankees’ announcers in awe, saying it was the longest home run they’ve seen hit at Yankee Stadium. You could hear the buzz around the ball park as Allen trotted around the bases, too.
They were Allen’s first two home runs in 10 games with the A’s, but he’s hitting a cool .394/.432/1.190 in those 10 games since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline. Allen hit three homers in his 11 games with the D-Backs before being traded.
Two home runs in a game could be viewed as rather pedestrian, but the distance on Allen’s bombs and his performance through 10 games with the A’s has earned Allen the stat line of the night for August 23, 2011.
