Jake Heaps’ Fumble Is College Football’s Most Embarrassing Play Of 2011 (Video)

We just finished talking about how the Brigham Young Cougars’ offense committed seven turnovers during their 54-10 loss to the Utah Utes on Saturday, and how that embarrassing performance was enough to get a local Arby’s to offer a free turnover to anyone with a ticket stub from the game (nothing gets hungry students over an embarrassing loss like free turnovers).

And speaking of embarrassing, we couldn’t help but show you the first turnover of the game, which marked the beginning of BYU’s downward spiral.  It came in the opening quarter during a 3rd-and-13 play for the Cougars on their opening drive of the game.  Following a bad snap, BYU quarterback Jake Heaps scooped up the ball, fumbled it while attempting to throw it away, then attempted to jump on the loose ball again, only to miss it completely and watch the Utes defense recover it in the end zone for the touchdown.

The saddest part about that entire debacle is that is actually looks a lot more embarrassing than it sounds.  You can see for yourself below.
