Stat Line Of The Night — 9/20/11 — Ross Detwiler

Ross DetwilerMore often than not we feature a star player in their respective sport on our daily “Stat Line of the Night.”  That should come as no surprise, as putting up big numbers on a daily basis is what makes most of those players the big name stars they have become.  However, every once in a while a relatively unknown player will come along and make a strong impression on us with a solid stat line.  That was the case in Philadelphia last night, as Washington Nationals starter Ross Detwiler came along and not only shocked us with his performance, but he was also able to shock the Phillies batters.

In just his ninth start of the season, Detwiler pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings, allowing only three hits and one walk against while striking out three batters.  He was pulled with one out in the eighth inning, but the Nationals’ bullpen would take care of the rest, retiring the next five batters in a row en route to the 3-0 victory.

Detwiler’s performance may not make him a household name just yet, but it was enough to earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
