Moto GP Racer Marco Simoncelli Dies In Fatal Crash (Video)
Tragedy has struck the racing world once again. Only one week after IndyCar racer Dan Wheldon died in a high-speed crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, another racer lost his life on the race track, as Moto GP racer Marco Simoncelli was pronounced dead following a fatal crash with two other riders.
The incident occurred during the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, as Simoncelli slid into the path of fellow racers Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi and was struck by their bikes, causing fatal head, neck and chest injuries. He lay on the track motionless for several minutes before being taken to the circuit’s medical center, where he was pronounced dead. The race was immediately called off following the accident.
Simoncelli was only 24-years-old, and the Italian rider was expected to develop into one of Moto GP’s top racers had his life not been taken from him during this seemingly unpreventable tragedy.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Simoncelli. Here is a look at the fatal crash.
