Craig Smith Puts It Up And Over The Empty Net (Video)
In the game of hockey, shooting the puck over the net from inside the goal grease is probably harder than simply shooting it into the back of the net. With that being said, I don’t expect anyone to be applauding the Nashville Predators’ Craig Smith for accomplishing that difficult feat during last night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
With the Predators already leading by two goals, Smith was sent in alone on the empty net with 1:20 remaining in the game, but rather than sealing the deal by recording a fourth Predators goal, he decided to give the fans a souvenir by flipping the puck over the crossbar and into the stands. It was such an embarrassing display that even members of the losing team were taking the opportunity to taunt the rookie, who entered the game with seven goals on the season but missed a glorious chance to record his eighth.
Luckily for Smith, the missed opportunity would be a meaningless one, as teammate Matt Halischuk scored on the empty net one minute later and the Preds earned the 4-1 victory. That won’t stop us from enjoying Smith’s blunder.
Here it is.
