Stat Line Of The Night — 1/4/12 — Geno Smith
With playmakers like Tajh Boyd, Sammy Watkins and Andre Ellington, there is no denying the fact that Clemson has one of the more high-powered offenses in the nation. However, all three of those players couldn’t help the Tigers keep pace with Geno Smith and the West Virginia offense during the Discover Orange Bowl last night.
The Mountaineers’ quarterback was on target all night, completing 31 of his 42 pass attempts for 401 yards and six touchdowns. He would add another 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground as West Virginia cruised to the easy 70-33 victory.
West Virginia’s 70 points set a new record for most points in a bowl game by a single team. As for Smith, his six touchdown passes tied a bowl record and they also helped him earn “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
