Stat Line Of The Night — 1/15/12 — Hakeem Nicks
With Victor Cruz receiving much of the attention among the New York Giants receivers throughout the 2011 NFL season, Hakeem Nicks quietly had himself a solid year, recording 76 receptions for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns. Two weeks into the post-season, and suddenly all of the attention is back on Nicks, as his performance during the playoffs has been anything but quiet.
One week after compiling six receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns during the Giants’ Wild Card victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Nicks was looking for more against the Packers. And he would get more, as he caught seven balls for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Nicks was the first player from either team to find the end zone, as he broke free in the secondary after receiving a pass from Eli Manning and took it 66 yards to the house in the first quarter. As for his second score of the night, that would come on a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half, which saw Nicks use his size and strong hands to get up and make a play on the ball, giving his Giants the 20-10 lead as they headed to the locker room.
The Giants would add another 17 points in the second half, en route to the 37-20 upset victory over the first place Packers. The win has now earned New York a ticket to San Francisco, where they will take on the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday. As for Nicks, he was a key catalyst in his team’s success, and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, January 15, 2012.
