Stat Line Of The Night – 1/19/12 – Pekka Rinne

pekka rinneEntering last night Nashville Predators’ goaltender Pekka Rinne had won his last five games in a row, and 14 of this last 16 games.  He was easily one of the hottest goaltenders in the league at the moment, and the Columbus Blue Jackets couldn’t seem to find a way to cool him down.

The Blue Jackets dominated the Preds, outshooting them by a convincing 38-24 margin.  Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t turn their advantage in the shot department into an advantage on the scoreboard, as Rinne stopped all 38 shots he faced, en route to the 3-0 victory.  His best work came in the third period, as he shut the door on all 18 shots he faced with his team leading by just two goals.

The win was a big one for the Preds, as it helps them keep pace with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues for top spot in the Central Division, as well as top spot in the Eastern Conference.  Finishing in that number one spot will be tough, but more performances like this one from Rinne could do the trick.  For now, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, January 19, 2012.
