Liverpool’s Luis Suarez Refused To Shake Hands With Mau U’s Patrice Evra (GIF & Video)
By now most of you have already heard that Liverpool’s Luis Suarez was handed an eight-match ban and a £40,000 fine on December 20, 2011 for an incident of racial abuse directed towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra during their match earlier this season on October 15th. With his suspension served, Suarez has since made his return to the Liverpool line-up, and the timing couldn’t have been any better, as his second game back just so happened to be against Evra and Man U.
With all eyes on Suarez and Evra leading up to this much anticipated match, many believed that they would see something interesting unfold during the pre-game handshakes. Needless to say, they weren’t disappointed.
As Suarez made his way through the Manchester United starting XI, he chose to skip past Evra’s hand. The Man U left back retaliated by grabbing the arm of Suarez, who quickly pulled away and continued to make his way down the line. And when he reached Rio Ferdinand moments later, Suarez was greeted with rejection, as the Man U defender refused to offer his hand in return.
It was a classless act by Suarez, who later apologized for his actions. As for Evra, he would have the last laugh, as Manchester United earned the 2-1 victory and he took the opportunity to celebrate the win in the face of Suarez following the final whistle.
