Stat Line Of The Night — 2/21/12 — Jeff Carter
The 2011-12 season has not been an easy one for Jeff Carter. After being traded by the Philadelphia Flyers to the Columbus Blue Jackets because of character issues (according to many sources), the 27-year-old center has managed to record just 12 goals and 10 assists in his first 38 games with his new team, while missing 20 games due to injury. As for Game 39 of the season for Carter, it would turn out to be not only his best performance of the season, but it was his team’s best performance of the season as well.
With the San Jose Sharks visiting Nationwide Arena, Carter couldn’t have picked a better time to get hot, as his three goals not only helped the Blue Jackets earn the impressive 6-3 victory, but it should also help increase his value with the trade deadline less than a week away.
Trade rumors have been swirling around the Columbus Blue Jackets these days, with the team sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings and several commodities on their roster. Carter is one of those commodities, and there are at least a handful of teams that could use his added scoring touch heading into the playoffs.
At the moment, there is no telling who Carter will end the 2011-12 season with, but for now he is a Blue Jacket and he earns the “Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, February 21, 2012.
