Stat Line Of The Night — 2/23/12 — Devan Dubnyk
With a stockpile of young, talented forwards, scoring hasn’t been much of an issue for the Edmonton Oilers this season, as their 2.63 goals/game ranks 15th among all NHL teams. Defense and goaltending, on the other hand, has been a problem for the most part this season, but it wasn’t an issue during last night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Entering the game Oilers’ goaltender Devan Dubnyk found himself ranked outside the top 30 in goals-against-average and save percentage and he had yet to record a shutout in 30 starts this season. I guess his 31st start was a charm, as he stopped all 35 shots he faced to help lead the Oilers to the 2-0 victory over the Flyers.
The Oilers continue to look for a number one goaltender, and at just 25 years of age, they are hoping Dubnyk can be that guy. His performance last night shows that he is capable, but the key to holding onto the lead role will be consistency. Can Devan handle the duties night in and night out? Only time will tell, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, February 23, 2012.
