Joe Lacob And The Booing Warriors Fans Ruined Chris Mullin’s Retirement Ceremony (Video)
Last night’s halftime ceremony at Oracle Arena was supposed to be about Chris Mullin and the many great years he spent as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Instead, it turned into the perfect opportunity for the Warriors fans to let new co-owner Joe Lacob know how they felt about trading fan-favorite, Monte Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks during the NBA trade deadline last week.
After Mullin shared a few words with the crowd, he turned the microphone over to Lacob, who was greeted with a loud course of boos from those in attendance. And despite his greatest efforts to cope with the disapproval of the fans, he simply couldn’t find a way to silence his critics and allow his voice to be heard. Even Mullin and former Warrior great Rick Barry attempted to step in and silence the crowd, with Barry going so far as to mention the fact that Lacob “is spending his money to do the best that he can to turn this franchise around…So give him the respect he deserves.”
Unfortunately, those words must have fallen on deaf ears, as the boos immediately resurfaced once the microphone was back in Lacob’s hands.
It was a rather awkward way for the Warriors fans to honor one of their team’s all-time greats, as they seemed much more interested in voicing their disapproval surrounding the departure of a player that many believe could have been one of the Warriors’ future greats.
