19-Year-Old Tennis Player Asks Umpire To Remove His Father From The Stadium (Video)
I am sure 19-year-old tennis star Bernard Tomic loves his father, but there is only so much negativity that one son can take from his dad before he has finally had enough. For Tomic, he reached that point during his match against David Ferrer at the Sony Ericsson Open on Saturday.
With Bernard trailing 0-30 during the fifth game of the second set, cameras showed his father, John, constantly shaking his head in disapproval while directing negative comments towards his son. Bernard would come back to win the game, but that didn’t make him any more accepting of his father’s negative energy, as he pleaded with chair umpire Cedric Mourier to remove his dad from the stadium, saying “He’s annoying, I know he’s my father, but he’s annoying me.”
In addition to those words, cameras also caught Bernard thanking Mourier after the chair umpire issued a warning to John Tomic for coaching from the stands. Bernard would go on to lose the match, and during interviews afterwards, he would deny any rift with his father, stating that his conversation with the chair umpire was about restringing his racquets.
I’m not buying Bernard’s latest explanation, and neither will you after watching the video below. Check it out.
