Stat Line Of The Night — 4/9/12 — Barry Zito
The first complete game shutout of the 2012 MLB season has been pitched, and it may surprise some to hear who the pitcher that produced it was.
Entering last night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, San Francosco Giants lefty Barry Zito hadn’t recorded a shutout in nine years, but he put an end to that disappointing streak by silencing the Rockies bats throughout the course of nine innings. Zito would throw a total of 114 pitches in his first start of the season, and he allowed only four hits against while striking out four during the Giants’ 7-0 victory.
Zito would also add one hit in four at bats, but it was his performance on the mound that helped the Giants earn their first win of the season, while earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, April 9, 2012.
