Stat Line Of The Night — 5/1/12 — Paul Pierce
With Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo both sitting out last night’s important Game 2 first-round match-up due to an injury and a suspension, respectively, someone had to step up and carry the Boston Celtics on their back. And to no one’s surprise, that someone was Paul Pierce.
Every time the Celtics are in need of a big-game performance from one of their players, it always seems as though Pierce is the one who provides them with it, and last night was no different, as he recorded game-highs in points (36) and rebounds (14), while adding four assists during the Celtics 87-80 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
With the win, the Celtics now return home with the series tied at 1-1, as they have now taken control of the momentum and home-court advantage from their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal opponents. They will have Rondo back in their line-up for Game 3 on Friday, but as we witnessed last night, Pierce is the true leader of this club and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
