Orioles’ DH Chris Davis Goes 0-for-8 At Plate, Gets Win On The Mound (Video)
Yesterday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles went an incredible 17 innings. And while that wasn’t long enough for designated hitter Chris Davis to get a hit from the batter’s box, it was somehow just long enough for him to earn a victory from the mound.
Davis was having a terrible day at the plate, especially for someone playing in the designated hitter’s role, as he failed to get a hit in any of his eight at bats, while striking out five times. That was all Orioles manager Buck Showalter could bear to see, as he decided to test Davis’ luck on the mound with no other options in the bullpen to turn to in the 16th inning. That decision would pay off, as Davis pitched a scoreless 16th, and after the Orioles scored three runs to take the 9-6 lead in the top of the 17th, the designated-hitter/designated-pitcher would shut the Sox down once more to earn the win.
Needless to say, if Davis continues to hit and pitch like he did last night, it may not be long before he becomes the Bizzaro-Rick Ankiel.
Here is a look at DH Chris Davis earning his first Major League victory as a pitcher.
