Stat Line Of The Night — 5/17/12 — Brandon Beachy
The Atlanta Braves organization has developed some great pitchers throughout the past couple of decades. Among them are the likes of John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and Tommy Hanson. And now it is beginning to appear as though it won’t be long before we add Brandon Beachy’s name to that list.
After going 7-3 with a 3.68 ERA during his first season as a full-time starter, Beachy has gotten himself out to a torrid start in 2012, as he entered last night’s game with a 4-1 record and a 1.60 ERA. He would leave the game with a 5-1 record, as the 25-year-old righty pitched his first career complete-game shutout, striking out six while allowing only five hits during the Braves’ 7-0 victory over the Marlins.
Beachy’s lights-out performance lowered his ERA to a league-leading 1.33, while his 1.77 opponent’s batting average is good enough for fourth in the Majors. If he keeps it up, he could be adding some hardware to his trophy case at the end of this season, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, May 17, 2012.
