Stat Line Of The Night — 5/30/12 — Carlos Gonzalez
With a 19-29 record heading into last night’s game against the Houston Astros, the Colorado Rockies haven’t exactly been having a successful season by anyone’s standards, but Carlos Gonzalez hasn’t allowed his team’s struggles to slow down his production at the plate. The Rockies’ left fielder entered the game with an impressive .309 average and 10 home runs, and he would improve upon those totals in a big way, thanks to the first three-home-run performance of his career.
Gonzalez stepped up to the plate five times and he would make the most of those plate appearances, sending the ball over the outfield fence on three occasions and singling during another at bat, as he went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs. He was the leader of a Rockies hit parade that recorded 14 hits during a 13-5 victory over the Astros.
Last night’s performance places Gonzalez among the National League’s top ten in batting average (9th), home runs (3rd) and RBIs (3rd), and it also earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
