Fan Yells “Mashed Potatoes” After Jim Furyk’s Tee Shot At US Open (Video)
Golf isn’t the most exciting sport to watch on TV. The commentators barely talk above a whisper, the crowds are relatively subdued, and, quite frankly, some of the game’s best moments are too subtle to come across on television.
Of course, this isn’t always the case. Sometimes a player makes a great shot that anyone watching at home can appreciate. Sometimes the crowd in the grandstands at the 18th green gets too excited to keep quiet. And sometimes a guy dressed as a bird interrupts Bob Costas‘ interview with the guy who just won the U.S. Open.
What’s that? You didn’t see that guy who jumped in front of NBC’s camera and started making bird sounds while Webb Simpson was being interviewed on Sunday? Well, you can read about it here.
But that isn’t the only strange incident from the 2012 U.S. Open going viral today. There’s also the “mashed potatoes!” guy.
Who is the “mashed potatoes!” guy? Nobody knows. All we do know is that, after Jim Furyk hit his tee shot on the 6th hole yesterday, some dude in the crowd shouted “MASHED POTATOES!” at the top of his lungs.
Here’s the clip:
I’ve always wondered whether they sold beer at PGA tournaments. Now I know that they do.
